According to foreign media, NTT Docomo, one of Japan's three major operators, said recently that it would restart accepting orders for Huawei's high-end P30 Pro smartphones. Earlier, NTT Docomo suspended accepting orders at the end of May after the United States unilaterally banned Huawei.
NTT Docomo, Japan's largest operator, said it would reopen its orders for Huawei's high-end smartphones on Wednesday, which are due to be launched in Japan in September.
NTT Docomo spokesman said: "We have been studying the impact of U.S. trade restrictions on Huawei, but have confirmed that our customers can safely use Huawei products at this stage."
It is understood that on August 8 this year, AU KDDI, a rival of Softbank and NTT, began selling Huawei's P30 Lite smartphones. Both companies said that applications from the US technology giant Google would be available on mobile phones, including those running Android operating systems. The mobile Department of Japanese e-commerce giant Rakuten has been supplying Huawei mobile phones since August 5.
As of March this year, Huawei's smartphone shipments ranked fifth in Japan, accounting for 6.2% of the total shipments.
NTT Docomo's announcement Tuesday came a day after the United States decided to extend its trade exemption with Huawei for 90 days, allowing the company to buy parts from the United States to supply existing customers.
The move by three major Japanese operators to restart sales of Huawei mobile phones revived Wall Street and created a leading edge for the Tokyo stock market. Huawei's U.S. chip suppliers have pushed up the Philadelphia Semiconductor Index, as well as issues related to China and Japanese chips.
